Magic + Memory: Make me a home is an exhibition by Anna Carey presented in the HOTA Children’s Gallery from 9 November 2024 – 27 April 2025.
Gold Coast artist Anna Carey creates miniature models of houses and the rooms inside them. Her work has been spectacularly brought to life in an oversized model created for play and daydreams.
HOTA Gallery engaged Goldi to develop the graphic design for this exhibition project including the exhibition title and support graphics. Working in collaboration with the 3D Exhibition designers Moth Design, we crafted the 2D visual elements that bring Anna’s nostalgic, mid-century-inspired vision to life.
Visitors are invited to step inside the kitchen, living and dining rooms from Anna’s imagination, with playful spaces full of pattern and colour echoing retro breeze blocks, tiles, and wallpaper, and peek-a-boo cupboards for spying Anna’s miniature house models.
A range of interactive elements, inspired by Anna Carey’s nostalgic models bring the space to life for children and adults alike. From oversized felt décor featuring Anna’s sketches and foam breeze blocks to retro Tupperware and custom jigsaw puzzles. And for those wanting to take a piece of the magic home, there’s even a make-your-own diorama kit.
