Rauschenberg & Johns: Significant Others is a touring exhibition from the National Gallery of Australia.
The exhibition opened in Pride month, acting as a great reminder that not that long ago being queer had to be kept secret.

The exhibition explores how in the early 1950s, at the height of the Abstract Expressionist movement, a new avant-garde began to emerge from a relationship between two young artists.
Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns are considered two of the most significant artists of the twentieth century, whose work changed the course of American art. Their shared aesthetic sensibility is a result of the creative dialogue they held while they were young artists in a relationship.
Goldi was engaged by the gallery to create the exhibition branding and marketing collateral, based on the NGA supplied title and a small selection of approved images. The brief was to create a stand out marketing campaign, to draw attention to this significant exhibition and the bigger issues that it drew into focus.
With support from the NGA, gallery and the exhibition curator, David Greenhalgh, Goldi was able to push the design to represent the contemporary, ground breaking work of their time, and bring through a key work with a ‘rainbow’ colour palette. Large building banners and posters were ‘out – loud and proud’, all around the local area.
